First Day as a Middle School Teacher
Wow what a day! So so so different than high school. LOL!
Day started good with our homeroom class. All 37 of my students were there! Woohoo! Perfect Attendance! But so so so many bodies. We spent the morning with these kids collecting materials brought in (what too cool! they actually bring in stuff!), passing out forms, assigning lockers (still the argument over top vs. bottom) and procedural stuff.
Then we had them line up for lunch. The cafeteria is on the other side of the school so we walk them down in a single file silent line. Then we have to sit in the cafe with them, albeit at a separate table up on the stage. So there's that. After 20 minutes (yes, I said 20 minutes) we then line them back up and proceed back to class. After restroom breaks we finish the morning half of the day.
So line them up again and off to our AHPL class...yes we walk them there too.
Finally a 40 minute break with no students! whew! sit and do nothing. lol
Go get them and walk them back to class. More rules and procedures and rotating them through different homeroom teachers. Since we are on a team, the four of us see all the kids throughout the day so different teachers did different parts of the rules. I had help today, being new and unfamiliar with the procedures, so lots of observing on my part. However, tomorrow I'm on my own.
End of day finally arrives and locker breaks and then line them back up to walk to buses or to the gym for car riders. Outside the buses await...well at least some of them. That part is just like last year at the high school...waiting on buses.
Finally they are all gone and back to my quiet room. Thoughts of is everything ready for tomorrow? Did I make the right amount of copies, etc. Yes yes, I think I'm good. Good. I'm going home!
Hopefully tomorrow goes just as smooth.
