So far so good...

So I survived my first full week as a middle school teacher and I think I am settling in quite nicely.  I really like most of the students.  Most of my friends are still asking me if I like it and I do.  I really don't see a lot of difference in the kids.  There are still the teacher's pets, the squirly ones, and the ones who fall in between.  Two big differences I have already noticed are they actually DO their homework...what? Mind blown!  The second is that I haven't heard the f-bomb once!  The worst word I've heard in 8 days is d-bag.  Crazy!

So we spent the first few days getting to know each other.  The did a cup stacking challenge (kids loved it!) and created a name art picture to learn about each other.  We went over the syllabus and established some routines and procedures.

The first full week we got into content.  I love interactive notebooks so I have introduced them to my students.  They seem to like the cutting and gluing of info and not having to write it all down.  The shorter classes are taking some getting used to and getting the timing down is key.

One of my classes is a "study skills" class but really is just a second math class.  I get to spend an extra period with one of my classes for 9 weeks and then will rotate to another group.  In this class, I am doing a more project based approach.  Our first project is going to be to create a toothpick bridge.  Fingers crossed, all goes well with it.

Spending a lot of time after school right now planning and organizing.  But hoping to get that down the more comfortable I feel.

Here's to a great 2nd week!
